Yen Ch'iû said, "It is not that I do not delight in your doctrines, but my strength is insufficient." The Master said, "Those whose strength is insufficient give over in the middle of the way but now you limit yourself."
Legge VI.10.
Jan Ch'iu said, 'It is not that I am not pleased with your way, but rather that my strength gives out.' The Master said, 'A man whose strength gives out collapses along the course. In your case you set the limits beforehand.'

Jen K'iou dit : « Maître, ce n'est pas que votre Voie me déplaise ; mais je n'ai pas la force de la mettre en pratique. » Le Maître répondit : « Celui qui vraiment n'en a pas la force tombe épuisé à mi-chemin. Quant à vous, vous vous assignez des limites1. »
