The defective practice of of the people in Confucius's time.
The Master said, "Perfect is the virtue which is according to the Constant Mean! Rare for a long time has been its practice among the people."
Legge VI.27.
The Master said, 'Supreme indeed is the Mean as a moral virtue. It has been rare among the common people for quite a long time.'

Le Maître dit : « La Vertu qui se tient dans le milieu juste n'est-elle pas la plus parfaite ? Peu d'hommes la possèdent, et cela depuis longtemps. »
