VI. How Shun pursued the course of the Mean.

Zhongyong VI. 1.

The Master said, "There was Shun:– He indeed was greatly wise! Shun loved to question others, and to study their words, though they might be shallow. He concealed what was bad in them and displayed what was good. He took hold of their two extremes, determined the Mean, and employed it in his government of the people. It was by this that he was Shun!"

Legge VI.

孔子说：“舜可算是顶聪明的人吧！他喜欢请教别人，而且喜欢体察平常人浅近的话语；他隐瞒别人的坏处，宣扬别人的好处，抓住大家议论肿过分和不及这两个极端正，调和起来采用中道，施行于百姓，这就是舜之所以为舜吧！”

白话翻译

Le Maître dit: "Il y avait Shun. Lui, vraiment, était d'une grande sagesse. Shun aimait interroger les autres, et étudier leurs paroles, même si elles pouvaient être superficielles. Il masquait ce qui était mauvais en eux et affichait ce qui était bon. Il prenait leurs deux extrêmes, déterminait le Milieu et l'employait dans son gouvernement du peuple. C'est par cela qu'il était Shun
