II. Only the superior man can follow the Mean; the mean man is always violating it.

Zhongyong II. 1.

Chung-nî said, "The superior man embodies the course of the Mean; the mean man acts contrary to the course of the Mean.

Legge II.1.

促尼说:“君子实行的是不偏不倚、永恒不变的中庸之道,小人却声违反这中庸之道。

白话翻译

Chung-nî dit, « l'homme supérieur incarne la voie du Milieu; l'homme médiocre agit en opposition à la voie du Milieu.

Zhongyong II. 2.

"The superior man's embodying the course of the Mean is because he is a superior man, and so always maintains the Mean. The mean man's acting contrary to the course of the Mean is because he is a mean man, and has no caution."

君子实行中庸之道,君子时时刻刻合乎中庸;小人违反中庸之道,因为小人无所顾忌,无所畏惧。”

白话翻译

« L'homme supérieur s'incarne dans la voie du Milieu parce qu'il est un homme supérieur, et qu'il se maintient toujours dans la voie du Milieu.
L'homme médiocre agit en contradiction à la voie du Milieu parce qu'il est un homme médiocre, et n'a aucune prévoyance. »
